How to Prevent Expensive Hospital Readmissions in Austin

When many think about hospital readmissions, they think about how hard they are on the patient who just wants to go home. But did you know that hospital readmissions are not only bad for the patient and their family but also bad for the hospital? For example, each time a patient is readmitted to a hospital in Hays County, the hospital has up to 3% taken away from their Medicare funding.  

The Austin Pug reports that hospital readmission penalties were designed to help patients by decreasing the likelihood of preventable hospital readmissions as part of the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program (HRRP). The measure was made to improve the care seniors receive within our health care system.
